Madeline Kolesar, LMHC
Psychotherapist
I believe that at any age, any person can benefit from having an intentional space to reflect on their goals and challenges in life in order to heal and grow into a more self-compassionate and authentic version of themselves.
I am passionate about creating a space where clients feel validated and empowered to meet their goals. I use a collaborative approach where the client and I both contribute to the nature and direction of our sessions, going at the client’s pace and figuring out what challenges or concerns that take priority each session. I then use a variety of interventions specifically tailored to each client's needs and circumstances. I enjoy helping people learn to reframe and diffuse unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and/or self-defeating behaviors as well as process and identify emotions that contribute to feeling stuck, confused, or defeated. Therapy provides a supportive, nonjudgmental space for individuals struggling with social anxiety to practice expressing their thoughts and feelings at their own pace. I integrate evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques to help clients build confidence, develop effective communication skills, and reduce anxiety in social situations.
I attended Loyola University Maryland with a Bachelors in Psychology and a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies and attended Canisius College for my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have worked at several community mental health agencies and have worked with a wide range of clients 16-80 years old.
When I’m not working, I love crocheting, reading, being outside, and spending time with my partner and our two cats, Max and Marshmallow.
